About
Melissa is a Postdoctoral Scholar who joined the lab in April 2025. As a microbial ecologist, she is interested in understanding how bacterial communities drive larger environmental processes. She earned her BS at UC Berkeley and her PhD at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Dr. Kristen DeAngelis' Lab, where she examined the effects of long-term soil warming on the relationship between microbial diversity and ecosystem function. In the Lewin Lab, she is investigating how strain-level diversity affects vaginal microbiome stability using metagenomic sequencing. When she is not at the bench or her computer, Melissa enjoys sewing, cooking, and playing laser with her cat Frankie.
